Every donation matters
My name is Lexie Ziolkowski and I am a student at Purdue University. Eleven years ago (while up way past my bedtime) I decided to start collecting books for kids who weren’t as fortunate to have books of their own to read. I dragged a blanket full of my own books into my parent’s bedroom at 11:00 at night, and my first book drive began. It has since expanded into helping those in need in any way I can. I had no idea what my blanket full of books would lead to. Since that night, with the generous support of my community, I have collected and delivered 20,000 books, more than 550 prom dresses, and over $14,000 in gift cards for kids in need.
We brought happiness to so many children with over 20,000 books. Since I'm unable to collect books while away at school, I highly recommend donating any gently used children's books to Bernie's Book Bank in Lake Bluff, Illinois.
Not every drive is planned in advance. When people need help, we can make a difference. Our efforts have included deliveries of books, clothing, and supplies to communities like Joplin, MO and Harrisburg, IL after tornadoes.
